Exercise Benefit: The Brain
Research is finding that as we age, exercise may be able to help keep our brains healthy. Two studies presented at the recent Alzheimer’s Association International Conference on Alzheimer’s disease showed that older people who exercised more had significantly less cognitive impairment than those who did not spend time working out. Working out is so good for your brain because it increases the blood being pumped to the brain and encourages higher levels of healthy chemicals called brain-derived nerve growth factors.
Exercise Benefit: Osteoporosis Prevention
“Exercise of various types can help prevent osteoporosis, thinning of bones, fracture risk, and falls that are associated with fractures of the hip, spine, and wrist,” says Larry McCleary, MD, retired acting chief of neurosurgery at Denver Children’s Hospital, and author of Feed Your Brain, Lose Your Belly. “Types of exercise that help include aerobic exercise, resistance training, and even exercises that increase balance and agility.” Tai chi may also be beneficial when it comes to improving balance and muscle strength.

Regular exercise can also boost your sex life. “When a person is aroused, blood flow rushes to the genitals,” says Stacy Berman, NASM, ACE, owner and founder of Stacy’s Bootcamp in New York City. “The better the circulation, the less likely one is to suffer from sexual dysfunction.” In addition, working out can also improve mood and boost confidence and self-esteem, all of which can lead to more success in the bedroom.
Exercise Benefit: More Muscle
As people enter their forties and fifties, muscle mass starts to decline because of aging and, in some cases, decreased activity levels. Muscular atrophy can also occur because of health conditions such as joint pain. As we age, it’s important to increase or maintain muscle mass through strength training, not only because it helps burn calories, but also because muscle mass is essential for strength and balance.

Although constipation can have a variety of causes, a lack of exercise can be a major contributing factor. “Exercise can help,” McCleary says. “It also enhances many factors that are indirectly beneficial, such as increased hydration and better dietary intake.”
Exercise Benefit: Less Stress
Exercise can have a number of emotional benefits. Stress can be caused by elevated levels of the hormones cortisol, adrenaline, and norepinephrine. Exercise lowers these hormones, and increases serotonin, otherwise known as the happy hormone, which helps reduce stress. Working out can help keep depression and anxiety at bay. Plus, coping with mood disorders that are often associated with stress can be a little bit easier when you are in good physical shape.
Exercise Benefit: Cut Cancer Risk
“Inactivity is associated with increased risk for a number of cancers, including colon and breast cancer,” McCleary says. “Exercise has been linked with a decreased risk of developing cancer, death from cancer, and recurrence of certain cancers.” The suggested mechanisms at play include exercise’s beneficial effects on the immune and surveillance systems that detect and kill cancer cells, improved cardio-respiratory status, improved hormonal profiles, weight maintenance, and other beneficial metabolic effects, he says.
Exercise Benefit: Decreased Stroke Risk
Given that two of the greatest risk factors for strokes are high blood pressure and heart disease, exercise — with its benefits of a stronger heart and better circulation — is crucial. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at least five days a week for optimum health, though you should always check with your physician if you have any health concerns before beginning an exercise program.

Another benefit of the increase in blood flow exercise provides is better skin — oxygen and nutrients are carried to cells throughout the body and waste products are moved out. “It’s like cleansing the skin from the inside,” Berman says. This executive order states that the President alone has the authority to take over all resources in the nation (labor, food, industry, etc.) as long as it is done "to promote the national defense" -- a phrase so vague that it could mean practically anything.
The power to seize control and take over these resources is delegated to the following government authorities:
(1) the Secretary of Agriculture with respect to food resources, food resource facilities, livestock resources, veterinary resources, plant health resources, and the domestic distribution of farm equipment and commercial fertilizer;
(2) the Secretary of Energy with respect to all forms of energy;
(3) the Secretary of Health and Human Services with respect to health resources;
(4) the Secretary of Transportation with respect to all forms of civil transportation;
(5) the Secretary of Defense with respect to water resources; and
(6) the Secretary of Commerce with respect to all other materials, services, and facilities, including construction materials.
This takeover is designed, in part, to "stockpile supplies" for the U.S. military. Authority for this total takeover of all national resources is granted with nothing more than the writing of a single statement that claims these actions are necessary to "promote the national defense." As stated in the order:
the authority delegated by section 201 of this order may be used only to support programs that have been determined in writing as necessary or appropriate to promote the national defense:
(a) by the Secretary of Defense with respect to military production and construction, military assistance to foreign nations, military use of civil transportation, stockpiles managed by the Department of Defense, space, and directly related activities;
What all this means is that the U.S. government now claims the power to simply march onto your farm with guns drawn and demand all your crops, seeds, livestock and farm equipment.

And for those living in denial who refuse to accept the reality of what's happening in America, remember the following:

What California did to Rawesome Foods, the Obama administration can do to everyone
As outrageous as that raid was, it's only the beginning. Now, thanks to Obama's executive order, the federal government can conduct Rawesome-style raids on all farms, all grocery stores, all food co-ops and even individual home gardens.
It's written in plain English. This is no longer debatable and it's not a conspiracy theory. It's Obama administration policy. For what other purpose would this be issued in an executive order if it was not seen as actionable by the government? This piece of paper, you see, gives them the (false) authority to do whatever they want and then have the front-line soldiers who carry it out claim "we're only following orders."

Understanding the fraud
This executive order starts out by stating that the U.S. President is the "Commander in Chief" of the U.S. military. This is false. He is not the commander in chief unless and until Congress declares an Act of War. No acts of war have been declared in recent memory, and certainly not under Obama who doesn't even seek congressional approval for war.
So Obama is in no way a "Commander in Chief." In fact, it is questionable whether he is even a U.S. citizen.
The phrase "national defense" can be twisted to mean almost anything. It could be invoked from something as harmless as a barge sinking in the harbor. It could even be invoked based on fabricated intelligence such as a fake website post from someone alleged to be "Bin Laden's second in command" who appears to shout some sort of threat against the United States of America. So the claim that this seizing of national resources will only be done under some sort of national defense emergency is pure bunk -- both Obama and Bush before him have already declared we are living under a national defense emergency! Thus, the conditions described in this executive order have already been triggered. It is already in effect!
Notice how nothing in this document talks about protecting the People? Serving the People? Supporting the People? It's all about protecting the government! The government needs stockpiles of weapons, food and resources -- but YOU don't! Such is the philosophy of current government which sees itself as all powerful and the People as helpless, mindless slaves of the state.
Tyrannical governments concern themselves with important concepts such as continuity of government but never the continuity of liberty for the People. At the first drop of a hat, liberty gets thrown out the window to keep government in power.

Of course, it's not an Obama thing. Bush was much the same. It's not the name of the person in the Oval Office who matters, it's the fundamental lack of principles and ethics reflected across government today. Instead of protecting the rights of the People, today's corrupt governments are little more than criminal gangs who steal power and resources for themselves (and their connected buddies) while destroying the economy and stealing everything in sight from the real workers upon whose sweat-drenched backs America was built.
Being pregnant seems to lead to a lot of restrictions, from what we put in our bodies to what we surround ourselves with. Sometimes reading the plethora of online lists of things to watch out for during pregnancy can be incredibly overwhelming. It's important that we learn to prioritize the things that are most potentially harmful for us and our babies so we don't become overly stressed. To that end, I'm writing a series of posts on what I consider the five most important chemicals to avoid during pregnancy. The first of those is bisphenol-A or BPA, an endocrine disruptor found in plastics and canned food linings.
What is BPA?
I’ve already written fairly extensively about avoiding BPA here as well as in my guest blog on Care2, but I believe this is the No. 1 most important chemical to eliminate from your body before, during and after pregnancy. BPA (bisphenol-A) is a potent estrogen mimicker, meaning it can disrupt our bodies’ vital endocrine systems, damaging the reproductive system, causing low sperm counts, cancers and more. Our endocrine systems help control our hormones, which are crucial to the healthy development of babies. Because it's extremely ubiquitous, nearly all of us are exposed to at least some level of BPA. But research shows that even small amounts of BPA can damage fetal development. And babies are often highly exposed to this chemical after birth, because it is found in #7 plastics, which are commonly used to make bottles and sippy cups, as well as the liners of infant formula cans.
You can find numerous studies to associate BPA exposure with a variety of developmental problems. A recent study by researchers at the University of Wisconsin at Madison found that early exposure to BPA created results similar to developmental exposure to mercury — adult fish that had been exposed to even tiny amounts of BPA as embryos has learning and memory problems, and experienced profound behavioral changes not only immediately after hatching, but also in adulthood. The scientist who conducted the study, Daniel Weber, said, “What was amazing is that exposure only happened at the embryonic stage, but somehow the wiring in the brain had been permanently altered by it.”
Do not drink beverages from or store food in plastic containers, in particular #7 plastic (to be safe, I avoid all plastic food storage and beverage containers). Do not eat canned foods. Nearly all canned foods contain high levels of BPA in the lining. Choose foods stored in glass jars instead. (Eden Foods is one of the only brands that has BPA-free canned food.) After your baby is born, do not use plastic bottles or sippy cups (opt instead for glass or stainless steel like these from Klean Kanteen — even BPA-free plastic can leach endocrine-disrupting chemicals, research has found). And do not feed babies canned infant formula. If you are unable to breast feed, choose dry-pack formula containers instead.
I know for a fact that for many people – people who have lost loved ones to cancer – this question will seem grotesque.
But the fact that many people have died of cancer doesn’t mean that cancer is not curable. It is. It also doesn’t mean that the ways by which cancer can be cured are not known.
It is my belief that there are many ways of curing cancer – and that we know what they are. We may not have ‘proof’ but that’s something else again (a whole kettle of worms!)
No-one is saying that each ‘cure’ is 100% effective. But if these ways do cure cancer – even for a few – then it stands to reason that the more of these ways that you commit yourself to, the better your chances of recovering and becoming cancer-free again. The decision not to seek these ways out is a choice. The decision not to do them is a choice.
It is my calculation that if there is any substance at all to all the anecdotal stories (personal experiences are always categorised as ‘anecdotal’) that have come my way then if you commit yourself to 10-12 therapies then you are boosting your chances of recovering to well above 90%

So, not doing these therapies is a choice – if you know about them. No knowing about them may be the result of a decision not to look for them – which is a choice. Unfortunately, for some people, the idea that there might be something they can do beyond what their doctors suggest is simply not something they are aware of. Or they lack the confidence to explore these areas.
The question is: how can we spread this message?
It’s spreading fast but still I am finding very intelligent people completely disregarding natural approaches (because they are ‘unscientific’ or because they are in thrall to their doctors (and I completely understand why they would be, it’s a natural response to the supposed authority of Medicine)). That’s the choice they have made. They have to live with the consequences.
So let’s debate this question: Is dying of cancer a matter of personal choice? What do you think?
Since posting this, I have been slightly uncomfortable that I have put this question in a way that will appear to be a matter of willingness (willingness to search out options) but I do understand that cancer, for the person who has the cancer, is an existential issue, and for those who have not gone through the journey and embraced their fate, a matter of profound fear. On top of that cancer carries with it its own physical burden – and there is the issue of having the energy and the commitment to persevere with a life prolonging strategy. So there is no moral issue, no suggestion of blame, attached to the question.

Through taking a detour in the road, I have better knowledge and have tried to educate others on other ways to control cancer. Through my journey I have been sharing my personal healing process in hopes that maybe your heart is whispering to you like it did me.
Through the knowledge that I have gained, I do not fear the unknown, I look past that and take each day with a grain of salt. The future will be full of experiences that will not be impossible for I took something bad and made it good. We all deserve to follow our hearts and choose our own journey, but first we have to research the unknown.
Research and you will find that life is not pointless. Your mind will grow full of hope and your journey will continue for many years.

As I have been mending my own body, I would like to share my thoughts speaking through my heart. We as a whole live in a fast world. We want a quick fix. It does not matter if it’s something as simple as getting our cars repaired to something in our homes. Who wants to wait?
It does not matter if it is our own body. We do not want to wait on natural resources to cure our bodies. Why should we when there are drugs out there that will do the trick ~ right ! May it be the food we eat (pesticides). Now the hardest part is to just change your lifestyle and make better choices in the future.
Cancer breaths on processed sugar and wheat products, which damages our cells. We can fight like an army and manage cancer with heat and oxygen. It’s a known fact that cancer can not breath and grow in heat or oxygen. There are natural ways of controlling ones cancer by using technology without damaging your good cells.
Think from your heart, chemotherapy has worked on some people and is what manages to keep them alive for more then five years or more. But what has it done to your body; you lose your hair and get sick to your stomach. We do not know the long term side effects it will do on our bodies! Yes, it is a quick fix, but harmful for it will kill your good cells also.
Stop and take a look at what you are doing and research what is being done from all over the world before making a decision that may cost your life. Take time to build your immune system up and find out what caused the cancer ~ take control of the problem.

"What’s most appalling is that Tide Free & Gentle is marketed to moms as a healthier choice for their children’s laundry. Yet infants and children are more vulnerable to chemical exposures because their immune, neurological, and hormone systems are still developing," said a message on the Women's Voices for the Earth website .
While there are no federal limits on what constitutes safe levels of dioxane, the Environmental Protection Agency says that dioxane may cause cancer in lab rats.
A Procter and Gamble toxicologist says the amount of the chemical in Tide is well below the safety risk level.
“We are many, many levels of magnitude below the levels that are considered any level of safety risk,” said Tim Long, a toxicologist for the company, in the New York Times article.
This is not P&G's first run-in with dioxane. In 2010, the company changed the formula of its Herbal Essence shampoo line to reduce or eliminate dioxane.
Environmental and health advocacy groups have asked Procter and Gamble to change Tide's formula. Women's Voices for the Earth has started a petition on its website calling for formula change.

In the United States, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women and the second leading cause of cancer death among women of all races and ethnicities. Yet many people are still unaware of their risk — and of which factors or lifestyle choices are most significant. Here are 10 key facts about breast cancer that every woman — and man — should know.
Improving Breast Cancer Statistics
About 230,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among U.S. women this year, with approximately 39,000 dying from the disease. But a more positive number is this: There are also currently more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. "Earlier diagnosis and better treatments have improved survival of people diagnosed with breast cancer,” says Kristi Funk, MD, breast cancer surgeon and founder of the Pink Lotus Breast Center in Los Angeles. In fact, death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1990, according to breast cancer statistics from the American Cancer Society, with women younger than 50 years of age showing the largest improvement.
Breast Cancer and Genetics
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer risk is approximately doubled among women who have one first-degree relative (mother, sister, or daughter) with the disease. However, more than 85 percent of women with breast cancer have no family history. “Many women over 40 who do not have a family history think it is okay to skip breast exams and mammograms, which alarms me, because most women who get breast cancer do not have a close relative with the disease,” says Dr. Funk.
Men and Breast Cancer
Approximately 2,100 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in men this year, with about 450 men dying from the disease. The American Cancer Society estimates that a man’s lifetime risk of developing breast cancer is about 1 in 1,000. “While this number does remain small, men can develop breast cancer,” says Funk. “In addition, due to the fact that men rarely consider breast cancer a possibility, they typically delay seeking attention and get diagnosed at a later stage of disease.”
Benign Breast Lumps
Feeling a lump in your breast can be a terrifying experience, but according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 8 out of 10 breast lumps are benign — meaning not cancerous. Most breast lumps are cysts (fluid-filled sacs within your breast), benign tumors such as fibroadenomas, mastitis (breast inflammation), blood clots from trauma, scar tissue, or simply nodules of dense breast tissue, which are not typically linked to cancer, Funk explains.
Breast Cancer Risk and Age
Breast cancer can develop at any age, but risk does increase as you get older. Statistics from the American Cancer Society show that breast cancer risk can be stratified by decade in life. For women at 20 years of age, the risk is 1 in 1,760. At 30, it’s 1 in 229, increasing to 1 in 69 at 40, 1 in 42 at 50, 1 in 29 at 60, and 1 in 27 at 70. The overall lifetime risk for developing breast cancer is 1 in 8.
Breast Pain and Breast Cancer
Pain is the body’s early alert system, letting you know when medical attention may be required. However, breast pain is not a common breast cancer symptom. It is more likely to be associated with certain non-cancerous conditions. Says Funk, “Pain is more typically related to hormonal changes or is cyclical depending on your menstrual cycle."
Alcohol and Breast Cancer Risk
Women who consume one alcoholic drink a day have a very small increased risk of breast cancer compared with women who don't drink at all. Women who drink two to five glasses of alcohol daily have approximately 1.5 times the risk. However, Funk says that moderate alcohol consumption has been associated with better heart health. Work with your doctor to find the right balance to help prevent heart issues without increasing your breast cancer risk.
Dense Breasts and Breast Cancer Screening
“Breast cancer typically occurs in the dense part of the breast, not the fatty tissue,” Funk says. “Therefore, women with dense breasts have more tissue that puts them at a higher risk of breast cancer.” Dense breast tissue can also make it harder to spot cancer on mammograms. Funk recommends that women with dense breasts also undergo ultrasound or breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
The Link Between Breast Cancer and Colon and Prostate Cancers
Approximately 5 to 10 percent of breast cancer cases appear to be hereditary. The most common cause is an inherited mutation in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. It is thought that these genetic mutations play a role in other types of cancers, too, including colon and prostate. That means that having a father or brother with BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations may put a woman at risk for breast cancer. However, “data on colon and prostate cancer increasing the risk of breast cancer has been inconsistent," Funk says. "I suggest that women who have a strong family history of any type of cancer should seek genetic counseling and understand their risk, especially if there is breast and ovarian cancer accompanying colon or prostate cancer in the family, or if there is breast cancer under 50 years of age or ovarian cancer at any age.
Breast Cancer: Fear vs. Reality
Research has shown that women are more afraid of breast cancer than of any other illness — despite the fact that heart disease is actually the No. 1 killer of women in the United States. That brings me to my tip of the month for April: Colorize your plate! Eat foods with a variety of color. The pigments of plant-based foods help fight disease and help you live a more vibrant life. There are seven color categories in plants: red, red/purple, orange, yellow/orange, green, yellow/green, and white/tan/brown.
