Fiona M. | I took a leap of faith and WOW…
New York, NY
Tell us a little bit about yourself...
I am 40 years old. I was born in Scotland, raised in an English village. Came here to study and stayed. I live with my husband in Connecticut, and divide my practice between there and New York.
I am now primarily a full-time shaman, trained in the Inca tradition. I love the work. I started a shamanic practice as soon as I began my training. I am also a sometime college admissions coach, Shakespeare scholar, and published author.
I love to learn, read, and teach what I have learned. Teaching seems to be my life's mission, with whatever I am learning. I love to open people's minds. Right now I am learning about organic gardening, planting forest gardens, and creating land trusts. I spend a wonderful amount of time walking our yellow Labrador on the playing fields every day. I'm teaching him how to play soccer.

What were your family’s views on health when you were growing up?
The Scottish eat sugar, fat, flour, and meat—preferably all together. Meat pies. No vegetables. Then there were the English, who boil their vegetables to death. I thought Chinese food was health food. In high school, I had a simple diet: chocolate egg and a bag of crisps for a snack, and a bag of chips swimming in vinegar for lunch—every day. It wasn’t unusual for me to have cake for breakfast.
I first got sick in college—a whole semester of flu I couldn’t shake. Then I spent a year in the Soviet Union, where the only fresh vegetables were moldy cabbages. I survived on black bread, processed cheese, and apples. When I came down with chronic constipation, I was flown back to England, given a barium enema, and told to eat more bran. I got my first diagnosis: Irritable Bowel Syndrome. For years I ate bran, which worked until it didn’t. In my third year of being a professor, I got infectious colitis from an antibiotic and almost died. I was out sick for two years. I went to a nutritionist, who put me on the Atkins diet. I ate no sugar, flour, or wheat for two years. But I ate a lot of meat. That was when I found the lump in my breast one morning. I was better from the colitis, but now I had cancer.

What brought you to Dr. Schulze?
I’m a world—class researcher in my field, so when I got diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2006, I went out there and made holistic healing from breast cancer my new subject. I got on the web and the phone and asked anyone who would respond what they knew. I investigated Laetrile, macrobiotics, Vitamin C, Rife machines, apricot kernels, parasite cleanses, Cesium, even pomegranate seeds. I learned enough to confirm that I could heal from breast cancer without the surgery. But I needed to talk to real women who had done it. I needed to know I wasn’t the first and that these were not just internet crackpots.
I found a discussion board on natural healing and posted a request for anyone who knew about natural healing for breast cancer. One person—now my good friend—responded to my message. I called her that night and we have been fast friends since. She was like an encyclopedia. She had healed from breast cancer eight years ago, naturally. A friend drove me upstate to her house to meet this woman off the web and she sat me down at her kitchen table and handed me a stack of books and videos. I left her house with the entire eight-video set of Dr. Schulze’s Incurables Program and strict instructions to get it back to her by Monday.

What products/programs did you use?
I set the tapes running on Saturday morning and lived with Dr. Schulze for an entire weekend. By the end of the weekend, I was on his program. All of it. I did the hot and cold showers, did yoga while watching the tapes, ran on the spot, and started juice fasting. I ordered the Incurables Program and held my breath until it arrived. I did that Incurables Program with every ounce of my energy. I got rid of a third of my belongings. I did the hot and cold showers. I juice fasted for 21 days of the program and ate all raw for the rest. I listened to his tapes. I took the Intestinal Formulae and did six weeks of Liver and Kidney Cleanses. I ran, and when I couldn’t run, I bounced on a trampoline. I slept with the windows wide open. Some days I had to drag myself up the stairs, but I gave it my full shot. Whenever the herbs tasted bitter or I wanted cake, I reminded myself that this was better than chemo, better than no breast. I told my friends I was doing “herbal chemotherapy."

What were your results after using the products and programs?
In Week Two of doing the Incurables Program, my lump started to shrink. It started out the size of a golf ball and the consistency of a marble. Rock hard. Every day, as I massaged in the shower, it shrank underneath my fingers. I thought it was maybe a fluke. I called my friend and said, “I’m not sure, but I think it’s shrinking.” In that week it shrank like crazy. In Week Four I did the Liver Cleanse again, and again it shrank on a daily basis. I just did another Liver Cleanse a couple of weeks ago, and the last vestiges of the lump dissolved away. It’s amazing.

How do you feel now?
I ask myself: Can I be this lucky, to heal from breast cancer by drinking carrot juice, while my friends’ wives are getting their breasts cut off? But I did something different. I took a leap of faith, with the support of my friend and Dr. Schulze. All I did was take two weeks to do my own research, and it changed my life. I didn’t do radiation. I didn’t do chemo. I didn’t have the surgery. I have both breasts intact. My breast is soft as butter now. My friends tell me I look fabulous. Strangers stop me on the train and ask me about my skin. My eyes shine. People tell me I look 10 years younger. Not bad side effects, and I’ll take them.

Many ‘Green’ Products are Actually Deceptive and Toxic

greengo 265x165 Many Green Products are Actually Deceptive and Toxic
Marketing is a clever science. Millions, if not billions, are spent by companies looking to better pitch their products to the masses. Today, we see more green products and “all natural” labels than ever before. While these are more common on food, they are being found on everything from your toilet paper to your all-purpose cleaning products. Many companies using these tactics have found in recent years that the whole “green” and “natural” movement is ripe for the picking.

Household cleaning products are a common source of chemical-quandary. After all, if the smell is such that you need to open a window while you clean, it can’t be good for you, right? To this end and to corral health and environment-conscious consumers, cleaning product manufacturers have started labeling their products as being “natural” and “non-toxic”. The labels might feature a tree or look like rough, recycled paper, all playing to your desire to have more natural and less harmful products. But many of these manufacturers are deceiving you.
The industry isn’t tightly regulated and manufacturers aren’t required to list all of their ingredients. So, in other words, if they wanted you to think they were providing a better, less harmful product, they could just not tell you about the “bad stuff” inside.

A study that analyzed cleaners and scented products found that even those that claimed to be natural, organic, or “green” contained chemicals with torrid pasts. About half of the products tested made these claims. And of all the products tested, an average of 17 chemicals were emitted during use, though only one made it to the label. In total, the 25 products tested emitted 133 chemicals of which 25% are classified as toxic or hazardous.
So, what can you do to truly lessen your exposure to chemicals like 2-butoxyethanol (used in Corexit 8527A and connected to damage to the liver, brain, respiratory system, and kidney) and other such toxins?

Know What You Are Looking For

Seek out products that list all  of their ingredients and never choose those containing any of the following:
  • Phosphates
  • Phthalates
  • Ethanolamines
  • Parabens
  • Formaldehyde
  • Glycol ethers
  • Volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) including chlorine and 1,4-dichlorobenzene
  • Nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPE’s)
For a truly all-natural cleaning solution that is completely budget friendly, try mixing up some white vinegar with a touch of lemon juice. Be sure to check out these home cleaning products to replace the

THE BLAME GAME !!

THE BLAME GAME !!

Since I have been blogging about both myself and my husbands experiences with cancer , I have had some comments from individuals that feel that they have been blamed for getting their cancer.

One remark was that because they did not eat the right foods or because of the environment in which they live . First and foremost I have never felt that I was to blame for my cancer and feel sad for anyone that feels that way.

This blog is not to make anyone feel blamed, but to educate one on how to better manage their lives for prevention and further recurrence . Throughout my healing and managing my cancer I have gathered knowledge that I wish I had known prior. There is no blame but education ~ KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

I was watching this TV program the other day and something was mentioned that life is about learning everyday something new. This is what gives us knowledge to apply in living. I would like to think that this blog is helping someone that wants to think outside the box and try something new. This is the reason why I had decided to publicize my choice of treatment and also to post other types other then the conventional ways. There is so much out there for us to check out and choose from.

So~ I would like to here from others that have had gone through cancer, Do you feel that others blame you for your disease? E-mail me at

WOULD I CHANGE MY DECISION?

About two years ago, I was told that I had breast cancer. My first response was to do nothing. The reason was that my father and several other family members past on with cancer and while working in the medical field I saw a lot of my clients also pass on from the disease. So my first reaction was to first just forget that this was happening to me.

As I was growing up and time passed I would not go to the doctor for yearly check ups for in the back of my mind I would file the thought of cancer away. Well it happened and now I had to live with the fear of dying.

After all the tests and a biopsy, my husband went on the internet to see what types of procedures were available rather then using chemo and radiation. He found this site from Mexico which opened up my life with all this new knowledge. I found that there were many procedures and natural remedies that could be used to manage cancer. We all use the word survival and cancer free as a point to indicate that the cancer is gone. I have learned that we manage cancer and need to continue to, in order to keep the immune system strong so to conquer it from coming back.

The type of treatments that I undertook was combining new techniques with natural remedies that were being done for many years from throughout the world. I received stem cells, my own good cells were multiplied and re-entered back in my system to fight the bad cells. I also had hyperthermia, which blood was being taken out and slowly heated to 109 degrees and re-entered in my system. This along with ozone treatments, natural vitamins, enzymes and minerals I have been able to manage my cancer. I learned that cancer can not survive in heat and oxygen and with this knowledge I have gained self esteem and realized that I can over come this disease without harmful poisons and surgically removing parts from my body.

We need for ourselves and loved ones to be educated on what is best for us, and not what is being done to everyone as a whole. It’s not how long we live, but the quality of life that we can enjoy. Knowledge is power.
It’s impossible, said pride. It’s risky, said experience. It’s pointless, said reason. Give it a try, whispered the heart. It’s early in the morning and this message came to me. I fear no more for I have managed the cancer. I trusted my heart to find another way to treat my cancer other than cut, poison, and burn. I also realized without having cancer I would have not met the amazing people that have taught me so much about life and I would have never experienced Mexico and the culture.

Through taking a detour in the road, I have better knowledge and have tried to educate others on other ways to control cancer. Through my journey I have been sharing my personal healing process in hopes that maybe your heart is whispering to you like it did me.

With the knowledge that I have gained, I do not fear the unknown, I look past that and take each day with a grain of salt. The future will be full of experiences that will not be impossible for I took something bad and made it good. We all deserve to follow our hearts and choose our own journey, but first we have to research the unknown.

Research and you will find that life is not pointless. Your mind will grow full of hope and your journey will continue for many years.

To finish I must say that with our hearts we can change our fear of the unknown and give hope to our future. Enjoy the now, for the future depends on it.

I am very humble for my doctors in Mexico were very passionate and took the time to show me how to manage my body from this terrible disease. My thanks go out to them, for giving me quality of life.

So, no I would not change my decision for I would not be the person I am today, nor as strong and knowledgeable. I met a lot of wonderful people along the way and now have many new friendships.

Cancer studies often downplay chemo side effects:

http://www.chrisbeatcancer.com/cancer-studies-downplay-chemo-side-effects-researchers-spin-results/

chemo drug warning
Jan 10th, 2013 / Reuters Health

Doctors relying on studies published in top journals for guidance about how to treat women with breast cancer may not be getting the most accurate information, according to a new analysis.
“Investigators want to go overboard to make their studies look positive,” said Dr. Ian Tannock, the senior author of the new study in the Annals of Oncology.

In two-thirds of the 164 studies Tannock and colleagues scrutinized, toxicities and serious side effects from chemotherapy, radiation or surgery were not listed in the paper’s abstract summary.
That’s important, said Tannock, of Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, because “most of us (doctors) are so damn busy, we only read the abstract and skim the tables and figures.”
A fifth of the studies didn’t include toxicities in results tables, and about a third failed to mention them in either the abstract or the discussion section.

Most surprising, said Tannock, was that in a third of studies, if the treatment didn’t work as well as one might hope, researchers moved the goalposts, reporting results that weren’t what the study was originally designed to test.

Often, those so-called “secondary endpoints” may be less important and meaningful. There is a difference, for example, between showing people lived longer overall, and simply lived longer without their cancers coming back.
Researchers “gain more influence with positive studies,” said Tannock, whose team analyzed reports of late-stage trials of the kind used by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to decide whether to approve drugs.

There are various pressures on researchers to make their results “look better than they really are,” Tannock told Reuters Health, including drug companies, which often sponsor trials. However, in the new study, who paid for a study didn’t have any relationship with how the results were presented.
Scientists may also spin their results to increase their chances of publishing in the top journals surveyed by the new study. Such marquee publications can improve the chances for tenure, promotion and grants.

One of the journals whose studies Tannock and his colleagues looked at, the New England Journal of Medicine, declined to comment, saying they don’t typically comment on other studies. Another, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, could not provide a comment by deadline.
Journals can help, Tannock said, by insisting that authors include toxicities in abstracts. “Even in 250 words, everybody can get that in there,” he said.

Tannock and colleagues concluded: “These reports were biased and used spin in attempts to conceal that bias. A possible explanation for this could be that the investigators, sponsors or both, prefer to focus on the efficacy of the experimental treatment and downplay toxicity to make the results look more attractive.”

My Comments
I have a love/hate relationship with studies like this.
I hate them because they uncover the seedy underbelly of the cancer treatment industry which includes ignoring or omitting critical information. This is despicable and infuriating.
I love them for the same reason, because it give me another, “I told you so”.
The pharmaceutical industry is corrupt and they control the medical industry, from the cirriculum aspiring doctors are taught in med school all the way to the drug studies published in the latest medical journals that practicing doctors read and trust.

All ye who worship science take heed. Research science can be biased.
It’s interesting how they uncovered that some researchers would ignore the negative findings of the primary focus of  the study and highlight a smaller less significant aspect because it was positive in some way.

Speaking of “positive”. The scientific jargon they use in these studies is incredibly subversive. Instead of saying, “Drug X made the tumor grow”. They will say something like “There was a positive association of proliferation” or whatever.
There are two major incentives behind the scenes for researchers to make drugs look good:
Incentive #1 When researchers produce positive results for drug companies, they get more research assignments. That means mo’ money. We’ve all got bills to pay. Mo’ money helps with that.
Incentive #2 Getting research papers published adds to your prestige and credibility in the scientific community. That also leads to more assignments and more money.
This of course doesn’t include bribery, fraud, and deliberate data manipulation, which also happens.
Here are consequences of “research spinning” in the real world:
Oncologists are reading these research summaries on new drugs and prescribing them without knowing how toxic and damaging it can be to the patient.
If doctors don’t know the side effects, they aren’t going to warn you about them.
