APRIL NEWSLETTER 2019

Welcome to April,  This month I am going to focus on the root of the cause.  We get sick and go to the doctor, where he or she treats you for just a symptom and not the WHY.  We are given prescription drugs that have side effects and lowers our immune system. The WHY is, we as a whole continues to be treated just for the
symptom and not being treated for the cause (the root).  Do you not ever wonder why you got cancer, heart problems, autoimmune diseases, colds, even the flu!

Functional Medicine gets right to the source and treats your illnesses without side effects and manages the problem.

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine focuses on understanding the fundamental physiological processes, the environmental inputs, and the genetic predispositions that influence health and disease so that interventions are focused on treating the cause of the problem, not just masking the symptoms.
There are seven basic principles underlying functional medicine which include the following:

  • Science-based medicine that connects the emerging research base to clinical practice.
  • Biochemical individuality based on genetic and environmental uniqueness.
  • Patient-centered care rather than disease-focused treatment.
  • Dynamic balance of internal and external factors that affect total functioning.
  • Web-like interconnections among the body's physiological processes also affect every aspect of functionality.
  • Health as a positive vitality, not merely the absence of disease.
  • Promotion of organ reserve.

ADVISE FROM A TREE
I wrote this piece April 27th of 2017, written two years ago.

How valuable is your health worth?  When we get sick we go to the doctor to get better.  They ask you how you feel and go by your symptoms.  They take tests on you to rule out any issues you may have to find the disease and then treat it with a pill.  But do they find out the cause, the root of why you have been feeling the way you do and why the disease is there.  No, not normally!

For six years, I have been studying on how I might have ended up with breast cancer and why I chose Functional Medicine.  The reasons for my beginning the program which lead me to my journey I am sharing with you.

To explain all of this, I have taken the advice from one of the oldest types of trees, the bristlecone pine.  First, we have to understand the growth and why they can live to be over 5000 years old.

We need to use our imagination and explore the branches of this pine tree as the diseases that are diagnosed daily.  Each one is treated by our conventional doctors as symptoms and are given medication for treatment.  Isn’t this like putting a band aid on a cut?  Now, what would you think the oldest pine tree would do?  Well, it would talk to its roots and ask what it was lacking. The branches would ask the tree, is it due to the environment (climate, chemicals, water, lack of sunshine, the soil.  All of these situations have something to do with why the pine isn’t growing and is getting sick.

This is much like us, the cause of why we get diseases are much like the pine tree.  In order for us to correct the problem we must go deeper into the root, the why.   This is Functional Medicine. Many diseases begin in the gut because of our food.   The other reasons which cause our illnesses are the environment (pollution), the food (chemicals, GMO’s processing), water we drink, stress, lack of exercise, and our DNA.  In later writings, I will explain all of the above and how we can change our health by changing our lifestyle.  Also, how we can alter our DNA to making it be healthy.

Take it from the bristlecone pine the oldest tree in the world, stand tall and proud.  Go out on a limb. Remember your roots. Drink plenty of water.  Be content with your natural beauty and enjoy the view.

Remember there are no mistakes – just lessons. Trust and love yourself and know that anything is possible.

Coming up – OUR ENVIRONMENT.  I was taught by a wise doctor in Mexico that stated to me, “you may not be able to change the environment outside your home, but you can change it within your home”.

THE ROOT OUR ENVIRONMENT
This was written also in 2017

Before we can begin, we first need to know the meaning of the word root. Its the base, foundation, basic part, basic element of anything. We all know this as a part of the body of a plant that develops, typically, from the radicle and grows downward into the soil, anchoring the plant and absorbing nutrients and moisture.  To a human, it is our immune system. The immune system is a system of many biological structures and processes within an organism that protects against disease.
We all come to the understanding that one is born into this world and also know that we leave this world.  However, the key to all of this is the quality of life one enjoys during the time on earth.  The big picture to all of this is how we play this with our environment.  Our immune system detects how we exercise the activity of our everyday life’s.

It’s the environment that kills us.  Pollution, the food (chemicals, GMO’s processing), water we drink, stress, lack of exercise, which can affect our DNA. What is our DNA? The nucleic acid that is the genetic material determining the makeup of all living cells and many viruses.

So, it is our choice to create around us an environment that is a safe lifestyle.  You need to create an area of less pollution.  You need to eat organic foods which do not have GMO’s and chemicals.  You need to test the water you drink. You need to practice mediation and be around nature with plenty of sunshine for vitamin D. You need to walk, dance, or be involved in the community.  All of the above’s you need to do, will keep your immune system healthy, which will give you a better quality of life.

In my writings later, I will explain how important pollution, food, water, stress, and exercise can make a healthy lifestyle which will give us quality of life.

This is what Functional Medicine does, it gets to the root (the cause) so that we can live a quality of life and a healthier immune system.

How to Improve an Immune System

We live in a world where it's just harder to stay healthy. Fresh and healthy food is available, but you usually have to go out of your way to find it. The foundation of health is a healthy immune system, so the best way to get and stay healthy is to do whatever it takes to support your immune system. This can be a multi-pronged approach involving organic healthy foods, exercise, supplementation and attitude.

things you'll need:
organic healthy foods
Basic vitamin and mineral supplements
Exercise
Relaxation

In  starting this new month, remember there are two National Awareness celebrations that can boost your immune system.

National Humor Month April 1, 2019

National Walk to Work Day is celebrated on April 05, 2019

In closing for this month, I can not end without thanking my sisters for the support and love.
